Taking the Leap - What Happens When We Outgrow the Box - vol. 3

Taking the Leap: I’m finally ready to put myself out there, and start taking on clients. I’ve posted on social media, told the people closest to me, and… nothing. Crickets.

So, I did what any determined creative would do: I regrouped, crafted a thoughtful little offer, and decided to start right here in my own neighborhood.

The offer: Front Porch Photography — quick, meaningful family portraits taken right on their doorstep. A sweet Mother’s Day idea. Ten minutes per family, one or two shots, and printed photos hand‑delivered on Monday. Honestly? I thought it was brilliant. My sister hyped me up. I felt good about it.

And still… nothing.

On my walk back home, I had to face the truth: It’s not that the offer was bad — it just wasn’t right for these people. In this economy, folks are focused on solving problems, not buying a sentimental porch photo for Mother’s Day.

And of course, that old familiar voice tried to jump in: “See? Nobody wants what you do.” But here’s the thing — they didn’t want it. but they are not everyone!

This wasn’t a failure. This was experience. This was data. This was clarity. This was me realizing that chasing the wrong audience is a fast track to burnout and not aligned with my desires.

So now the work becomes this: Stop knocking on doors that were never meant to open. Start building something magnetic enough that the right people knock on mine.
